Gustav Klimt Brought to Life by Photographer Inge Prader.

Austrian photographer Inge Prader recently recreated Gustav Klimt’s masterworks for Style Bible, a part of the Life Ball Charity Event in Vienna, Austria.  A team of over 50 professionals worked on the demanding photography project which raises funds to help those with HIV/AIDS.  Makeup artists, costume designers, set designers, lighting specialists and many others worked with models and fully ornamented props to bring to life the fascinating, erotically charged work that Klimt is known for during his “Golden Phase.”

Does someone have a translation of all this glorious sweetness?

Elmo says “duck!” and then “I did it!” and Diego Luna congratulates him sincerely and joyfully, embracing him and saying “well done! Especially after you tried so many times!” and by that point I could no longer see through my tears of tender joy but I think that was the end

It’s like millennials do not understand that middle east has been at war for 1000′s of years. That we intervened on behalf of Kuwait. That without “bombing” people that want to kill and oppress others, millions will be murdered and tortured.

“at war for 1000′s of years”

you clearly know nothing about Afghanistan nor the middle east

here’s Afghanistan in the 1950′s, 60′s, & 70′s

if you really want to know what caused all the instability & growth of extremist groups I suggest you take a look at the US foreign policy towards Afghanistan during the 80′s

It’s interesting to note that when the communist government came to power in Afghanistan in the late 70′s, one of the first things they did was declare equality of the sexes, made education for girls mandatory, & banned child marriages. The conservative tribal leaders who the US armed & funded (& who later became the Taliban) declared this to be a “war on Islam” & fought against the central government.

The US had no problem back then with encouraging the growth of Islamic conservatism to counter socialism/communism. You created your biggest enemy & you have no one to blame but yourselves.

BLESS THIS POST

its crazy to me how the US talks about war in the middle east as if its this ancient problem inherent to the area instead of a recent problem created by western countries to further their own interests.

Artist Bans Anish Kapoor from Using ‘Most Glittery Glitter’ | artnet Nes

to summarize:

•Anish Kapoor gets exclusive rights to use Vantablack, the world’s “blackest black” pigment, which understandably upsets a lot of artists

•Stuart Semple responds by creating Pink, the world’s “pinkest pink” pigment, which he makes legally available to everyone except for Anish Kapoor
•Kapoor somehow gets ahold of Pink and posts an Instagram photo of his middle finger dunked in the pigment that Semple had banned him from using
•Semple gets ahold of Vantablack and posts an Instagram video of his hand making the peace sign with his fingers coated in Vantablack
•During this time, Semple also releases Diamond Dust, the “most glittery glitter,” again available to everyone EXCEPT Anish Kapoor

The best thing about Diamond Dust is that it’s made from actual shards of glass so Anish can’t just stick his middle finger in it again

This petty art feud is actually starting to look like it could be one of the most important pieces of performance art of the 21st century

Updates since this article was published:

  • Semple finds out who gave Kapoor the pink
  • Semple tweets about being “back in the lab” and “fighting the void with the rainbow”, with a picture of green pigment
  • Semple posts pictures of both green and yellow pigments on Instagram
  • The creator of Vantablack comments on the Instagram video of Semple’s fingers coated in it saying that couldn’t actually be Vantablack
  • Semple apparently proves it to the creator’s satisfaction by adding clips of it being applied to his Snapchat story

What a time to be an art historian and alive

Flooded with phone calls from voters, House GOP drops effort to gut ethics panel

broadlybrazen:

The House GOP reversed course on Tuesday, deciding in a closed door meeting to abandon a plan approved less than 24 hours earlier to gut the independent Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE).

In an emergency conference meeting Tuesday morning, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) offered and the party approved a motion to restore the current OCE rules. The reversal came as members of Congress said their offices were flooded with calls from constituents angered by the decision.

“We have got just a tremendous number of calls to our office here and district offices concerned about this,” Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) said, according to Bloomberg News.

After the secret vote Monday night, many people urged others on Twitter to call their members of Congress to find out how they voted. Lists of Congressional office phone numbers were retweeted thousands of times.

Democratic lawmakers also joined the outcry against the vote and publicly blasting the decision. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi declared that “ethics are the first casualty of the new Republican Congress.”

President-elect Donald Trump also responded on Twitter Tuesday morning, saying that the OCE is “unfair” but questioning the House GOP’s timing. Nevertheless, media organizations credited “criticism” from Trump for the reversal.

Ordinary people accomplished this. Not Trump.

tchaikovsky or tschaikowsky?

who knows

Richard Taruskin, in the Oxford History of Western Music, writes “Chaikovsky,” something which I have never seen repeated elsewhere. It is the only thing that he has written in the OHoWM that I immediately reject without looking for further evidence to disprove its existence. @tchaikovsky-official what do you think?
