There is real evil in this world, you can’t legislate it away, you can’t ignore it away, and you can’t wish it away, evil is evil

Sadly this is the kind of thing that won’t get much attention on Tumblr. Tumblr will spend months talking about one girl dragging her mattress around campus protesting an alleged rape and yet when an undisputed mass rape of little girls like this happens Tumblr will ignore it because Tumblr always whitewashes the negative actions of POC and Muslims. If the rapists had been White fratboys these poor girls wouldn’t be ignored by Tumblr.

STOP. You apparently don’t follow the right people. There is a substantial amount of people on here talking about this. Stop that guilt trip nonsense and spread info much as you can without that kind of propaganda.

^^Thank You

^^ Super thank you. And calling the girl dragger her mattress around campus an “alleged” rape is part of the reason people are still scared to speak up against rape. Like, shut up please

If it has not been proven it is alleged, by definition. It’s this little thing called innocent until proven guilty.

But aside from the mattress ridiculousness, the fact that Boko Haram’s actions aren’t given nearly enough attention (In addition to these poor girls who have just been through hell, they are straight up killing entire schools of boys, and generally causing mass mayhem and yet the media attention was limited and faded away months before the girls were actually rescued.) is such a serious issue. Old news doesn’t make money so instead of continuing awareness the media jumps onto whatever scandal is next in line which just hurts everyone.

zed-azrael:

talking about 9/11 with white people is literally one of the most frustrating things ever because they won’t stop talking about their experiences (even if nothing happened to them personally), and when i, a middle eastern person, try to contribute to the conversation, i can’t get a fucking word in.

like what the fuck, nothing happened to you on that day – which, you know, thank goodness – so why the fuck do you insist on dominating the conversation? my daily life is still being effected by this even now, over ten years later.

but you’re not interested in hearing about how my fifth grade health teacher never again called on me or the arab girl in my class. you’re not interested in how whenever my family travels, all fourteen of us (a number that used to include young children) get “randomly” searched. you’re not interested in the fact that when i was asked to buy a propane tank for a barbecue, i spent the rest of the day stressed out and worried that the attendants at all the stores visited to inquire were all going to think i was making explosives (all stores in the neighborhood mysteriously were out of propane tanks in the middle of summer). you’re not interested in the fact that whenever my cousin prepares to fly on his own, his mother calls him to make sure he’s clean shaven so he doesn’t look “like a terrorist.” you’re not interested in the fact that i once witnessed a whole family of white people bypass the x-ray scanner for the old fashioned metal detector, but when i asked for the same treatment, i was denied; when i pointed out the (many) signs claiming that i had the right to refuse going through that machine, the tsa agent who mere seconds earlier berated me for my request went conveniently deaf. you’re not interested in hearing about how my sister was told “sorry about your leader” when osama bin laden was killed.

i could reference personal anecdotes until i went blue in the face.

there are countless people who have stories like this, stories that are grotesque and demeaning and terrifying. these are everyday occurrences.

but you’re not interested in any of that. frankly, you’re not even that interested when middle eastern and muslim (and sometimes non-muslim desi) people are subjected to extreme violence or killed. you guys got over chapel hill pretty damn fast. if you noticed it at all.

you don’t give a fuck about us, or our ongoing 9/11 stories. you just want to tell me about how horrible it was, sitting in class and listening to other kids get their names called on the pa system.

but i totally get it. it was really hard for you.

Do not let Tumblr make you think:

mordecai-put-your-phone-away:

  • That doing drugs makes you cool.
  • That being rude to your parents is okay
  • That being straight means you aren’t a person
  • That being controversial all the time is cool and will get you friends
  • That being blatantly rude to people to get your point across is okay
  • That being white makes you by default evil
  • That having a mental illness is cool
  • That cutting yourself is okay
  • That being a male means you are a rapist
  • That all men are evil, misogynistic monsters
  • That misandry is okay
  • That doxxing people’s personal information is okay if they said something you don’t like
  • That tumblr should be your vital source for controversial issues
  • That school doesn’t matter
  • That being narcissistic is cute
  • That making a minor mistake on a post will make the world hate you
  • That the world is a horrible place

top six ways to insult boys

farandolae:

baphomeme-archive:

  1. purposefully forget their names
  2. any time yr talking about anything outside the realm of COD, energy drinks, or football, pause and giggle and say “oh, but sorry – you wouldn’t know anything about this, right? we can change the subject”
  3. extension on #1: call him by the name of another boy w the same hair color as him. when he protests, laugh and act like he’s trying to trick u
  4. “hold this.” stop acknowledging him for the remainder of the encounter until it is time to collect you bag/purse/coat/etc
  5. “sorry, what? i wasn’t listening” rinse and repeat
  6. tilt yr head. make a cute face. “awwwwww”

the boy tears in the notes are amazing

Ah yes. I forgot that purposefully demeaning others was cute if they aren’t of the same group as you. Good lord, this is terrible. People deserve to be treated like human beings and if any girls actually act like this then I am extremely disappointed by them and the human race in general.

Top six ways to insult girls

1. Purposefully forget their names. (It’s not like name are a universal phenomenon designed to give people dignity and individuality. It’s not like erasing peoples names is traditionally one of the worst things you can do to them. Nah, screw girls.)

2. Any time you are talking about anything outside the realm of romance novels, diets, or makeup, pause and chuckle then say “Sorry – you wouldn’t know anything about this, right? We can change the subject” (Because stereotyping is adorable! Everyone is defined by loose societal views of them! Insulting other’s intelligence isn’t likely to destroy their self esteem, it’s funny.)

3. Call her by the name of a girl with the same hair colour. (Girls are interchangeable. Girls are purely defined by their physical characteristics. That’s not incredibly rude and likely to cause someone to doubt themselves.)

4. Reduce people to coat hangers! Don’t interact with others as human beings! Edgy! (What. The. Hell. This is so messed up. I can’t even figure out a gender flip because I’m busy being shocked by the kind of slime that would advocate ignoring people to intentionally mess with their self esteem, even jokingly. Are you a five year old or a sociopath?)

5. “Sorry, what. I wasn’t listening.” Rinse and repeat. (Girls need to be told their opinions don’t matter. It’s not as though feeling like no one  pays attention them or cares about them can cause or exacerbate depression and other problems. It’s not as though young people are mentally fragile and it’s not like many people around the world are already constantly told no one is listening to them. No, intentionally hurt people. For fun.)

6. Tilt your head to the side and say “Awww.” Girls should be infantalized and reduced to adorable objects. (Everyone is cool with objectification, right?)

If you were offended by this being applied to girls but not to boys, congratulations, you are a terrible person.

It is far too late and I am far too tired, but this is the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Suicide rates are very high, especially among adolescent men.Teenagers of both genders have increasing mental health issues. This isn’t cute teasing or a friendly game. This is the sort of thing that could seriously hurt someone. Suggesting that this sort of behaviour is acceptable or even admirable by anyone to anyone is beyond low. If this is a joke, it’s a terrible joke. If this is for real it’s just plain terrible. Either way, I am seriously disappointed in this post.

it’s international romani day

hermanngottliebs:

today is technically a day to celebrate our heritage and our culture, but i want to use this as an opportunity to raise awareness of just how bad the situation is when it comes to us.

the oppression of romani people in europe is nothing new. it goes back to the middle ages. romani people
have been the victims of ethnic cleansing, slavery, forced labour, child
abduction, forced assimilation and eviction from their homes for
centuries, with the last genocide happening only 70 years ago during the
holocaust in which we were targeted alongside jews as the primary enemy of racial purity.

romani were legislated against in the same way, branded in the same way, deported in the same way, tortured and abused in the same way and killed en masse in the same way, and yet this is continually erased from the history books or barely worth a footnote. all that despite the fact that more than half of europe’s romani population is estimated to have died in the porajmos.

it took until 1982 for the porajmos to be acknowledged at all and even then it was only in west germany. the entire 40 years
before that people told romani our holocaust was “legitimate official
measures against persons committing criminal acts, not the result of
policy driven by racial prejudice”. the crime was exisiting and the
legitimate official measures were genocide. even after it was officially acknowledged we got no reperations and it is still continually swept under the carpet.

some of the legislations against us only became illegal in 2003, forced sterilisation of romani women being one. not that this stops that issue from still being a problem.

nowadays discrimination against romani people is still completely legal
in the majority of european countries and even countries in which it’s
not legal participate in it either way. this doesn’t extend to only
european countries either, the usa and canada are just as guilty of it.

romani
people are denied education, health care, housing and service based on
our ethnicity and are disproportionate targets of violence and crime.
in many countries in europe we are the number one group targeted by
hate crimes. often we are not allowed to attend schools or have to go
to a special segregated school that is basically useless.

we are 90% more likely than any other citizen in our countries to live in extreme poverty in living conditions which are considered to be
violating basic human rights. many romani people have to live without
electricity, running water or food. we are consistently illegally evicted in countries we have the right to be in and we face violence and persecution from both the civil public and the police.

there are
frequent anti-roma protests in countless countries calling for violence
against us and urging the government to deny us asylum and shelter. people burn our camps down after chasing us out of them. frequently romani children
are being taken away from their parents for not looking romani enough
because of the stereotype that we steal children.

the situation is dire and we need help. please spread as much awareness of these things as you can and if you even have five bucks to spare, consider donating to errc.org to help them fight for romani rights in europe. (or another trustworthy romani charity/rights organisation.) one of the many reasons why this is still going on is because so little people are aware of what’s happening to us. you can change that.
