First look at BBC1′s Little Women
An Unpopular Little Women Opinion In This, The Year of Our Lord 2017: Beth should have married Laurie, if only so she could be the eccentric rich lady she was always destined to be. She would have had the raddest doll collection and started so many charities providing piano lessons to underprivileged youth.
Little Women Modern AU Laurie marries Beth so he can get her on his granddad’s company health insurance (the Marchs have terrible unemployed teacher insurance) so she can actually get real medical care for her serious scarlet fever complications. While she’s in the hospital Beth uses all the wedding presents confused relatives who didn’t get the “pragmatic friend marriage” memo sent to help out others. It’s not like she and Laurie are going to need a toaster anyways.
Meanwhile Amy and Laurie slowly fall for each other despite their guilt and Amy realizes her only dream great than marrying rich; being a rich man’s scandalous mistress. Beth is over the moon for them and keep trying to convince them to get married, but Amy and Laurie insist on waiting until Beth is well into her recovery before starting the slow slog of divorce or remarriage. It’s all ridiculously amicable even if the high society people do whisper and Laurie’s grandfather complains a lot because he liked Beth as a granddaughter-in-law.
Beth uses most of her ridiculously big divorce settlement to help out her favorite charities and then promptly moves in with Jo and the professor and gets really involved in niche antiques and music.
