Sure happy George W. Bush said a few nice words about Muslims while his administration was killing at least a hundred thousand Muslim civilians

Seriously. I can’t fucking stand this “now that I look back, Bush wasn’t all that bad” attitude and I’m seeing it everywhere.

He was a killer! He’s a monster.

Hurricane Katrina.

USA PATRIOT Act.

The literal legacy of the entire “War on Terror” that has been rebranded under several different names under the Obama Administration but ostensibly serve the same purpose.

white phosphorus in fallujah, summary executions in baghdad, the gloating idiotic monstrosity of the imperialist press, snipers in new orleans, abu ghraib, bagram, kidnapping children for guantanamo bay, no child left behind, the lynching of muslims, sikhs, arabs, and indians.

the staggering rise of cancer and birth defects in fallujah due to depleted uranium being used and left in the city

The Betsy Devos Era of Education House Bill 610 is terrifying.
Please inform yourselves.

This bill will effectively start the school voucher system to be used by children ages 5-17, and starts the defunding process of public schools.
In addition the bill will eliminate the Elementary and Education Act of 1965, which is the nation’s educational law and provides equal opportunity in education.

It would repeal ESSA (Every Students Succeeds Act):
ESSA is a big comprehensive program that covers programs for struggling learners, AP classes, ESL classes, classes for minorities such as Native Americans, Rural Education, Education for the Homeless, School Safety (Gun-Free schools), Monitoring and Compliance and Federal Accountability Programs.

The Bill also abolishes the Nutritional Act of 2012 (No Hungry Kids Act) which provides nutritional standards in school breakfast and lunch.
The bill has no wording whatsoever protecting Special Needs kids, no mention of IDEA and FAPE.

Some things ESSA does for Children with Disabilities
-Ensures access to the general education curriculum.
-Ensures access to accommodations on assessments.
-Ensures concepts of Universal Design for Learning
-Includes provisions that require local education agencies to provide evidence-based interventions in schools with consistently underperforming subgroups.
-Requires states in Title I plans to address how they will improve conditions for learning including reducing incidents of bullying and harassment in schools, overuse of discipline practices and reduce the use of aversive behavioral interventions (such as restraints and seclusion).

Please call your representative and ask him/her to vote NO on House Bill 610 (HR 610) introduced by three Republican reps (now that’s a surprise!)

Surface tension holds small droplets in a partial sphere known as a spherical cap. But when droplets become larger, they flatten out into puddles due to the influence of gravity. In contrast, soap bubbles remain spherical to much larger sizes. The bubble pictured above, for example, is more than 1 meter in radius and nearly 1 meter in height.

There is a maximum height for a soap bubble, though, and it’s set by the physical chemistry of the surfactants used in the soap. To support itself, the bubble requires a difference in surface tension between the top and bottom of the bubble. A higher surface tension is necessary at the top of the bubble to help prevent fluid from draining away. The difference in surface tension between the top and bottom of the bubble can never be greater than the difference in surface tension between pure water and the soap mixture – thus those values set a maximum height for a bubble. The researchers found their bubbles maxed out at a height of about 2 meters, consistent with their theoretical predictions. (Image credit: C. Cohen et al.; via freshphotons)

Donald Trump forms xenophobic and anti-American agency to publish list of crimes by immigrants

justinspoliticalcorner:

Andrew Griffin at The Independent

Donald Trump will form a new agency to publish a regular list of all crimes committed by immigrants.

The agency is expected to publish a weekly list of all crimes committed by what it terms “aliens”. That does not seem to refer only to undocumented migrants – suggesting that anyone who has moved to the US could find their name on the public list.

Audible groans greeted the President’s announcement, during a speech that was mostly met with applause from lawmakers.

“I have ordered the Department of Homeland Security to create an office to serve American Victims,” he said in the speech. “The office is called VOICE — Victims Of Immigration Crime Engagement. We are providing a voice to those who have been ignored by our media, and silenced by special interests.”

He went on to list a number of people who he claimed had been killed by immigrants that he would have banned from the country. “Joining us in the audience tonight are four very brave Americans whose government failed them,” he said.

He made the commitment during his first ever speech to Congress. It is a realisation of a plan that has drawn sustained and strong criticism, signed into law by Mr Trump just days into his Presidency.

The controversial policy has already drawn comparisons with the “black crime” section on the Breitbart News, which published a list of offences committed by African-Americans. That website was recently edited by Steve Bannon, who now serves as Donald Trump’s closest advisor in the White House.

His proposal to create VOICE will be one of the most anti-American things this xenophobic joker has done in office.

the significance of trump’s recent statement on the wave of bomb threats targeting jewish community centers (that they may be a false-flag and are possibly coming from inside our own communities) is not lost on most jews but i’d like to reiterate for non-jews who may not know why this isn’t just a stupid or clueless explanation to avoid accountability.

this is something white supremacists and neo-nazis say. it mirrors almost perfectly the lie they’ve been disseminating for centuries: jews are the orchestrators of our own oppression; antisemitism is a jewish scheme. (take this cartoon from stormfr*nt for example). this is the type of rhetoric holocaust denial is built on.

do not let this slide. this isn’t the fist time trump has parroted antisemitic conspiracy theories in ways that are just vague enough to seem harmless but are still recognizable to fascists.

When Ronald Reagan told a heart-breaking story that he’d seen in a Warner Brothers war movie, which had never happened in real life, as if it were true, that he’d been at the liberation of the concentration camps though he’d never left Hollywood during the World War II, and told slanderous tales of black people abusing welfare that were false, nobody wrote that he was a liar.

He was just a likeable, corny storyteller. After the facts about Iran-Contra were published by a commission report, Reagan made a public statement that said, “A few months ago, I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostages. My heart and my best intentions still tell me that’s true, but the facts and the evidence tell me it is not.” Yet, the L word did not appear.

The L word continued to be kept in the closet, in favour of respectful euphemism, through the war in Iraq and the weapons of mass destruction that didn’t exist. Did it matter? Yes. When George W Bush ran for his second term there had been two official reports that said there were no WMDs. The Senate Intelligence Committee and the 9/11 Commission both reported that there had been no connection between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda.

Yet 72 percent of Bush supporters believed Saddam had WMDs, 75 percent thought he was connected to al-Qaeda, and more than half thought the experts agreed with them.

It seems reasonable to think that the way the stories were reported allowed these delusions to persist and that, in turn, Bush got re-elected by the delusional.
