i don’t know what’s worse: the producers of sesame street actually taking the time to rebuke an openly gay former writer’s gentle and moving admission that he’d based several bert and ernie sketches on his relationship with his late partner OR this person waltzing into the middle of a discussion about homophobia to make a completely fucking irrelevant comment accusing sesame street of hating asexuals

Every day I am thankful that the B.C. Liberals and Christy Clark are no longer running my province.

But especially after garbage like this.

Know what other awful former Premier supports Doug Ford’s use of the notwithstanding Clause?

Brad Wall.

Jesus H Christ on a bicycle. Charet too? This is an appropriate use of the notwishstanding clause? Pandora’s Box is wide fucking open now.

Also former Quebec Premier Jean Charest has defended the move as well.

Brad Wall is defending the use of section 33 because he tried it himself not that long ago and it didn’t work (something to do with funding non-catholic students to go to catholic school using taxes??)

Jean Charest is just mad because he didn’t think of doing this to effectively shut down the tuition protests back in 2012.

They can both die mad about this.

Also, let’s not forget that Alberta’s progressive conservatives have explored this option on multiple occasions, including one attempt where they tried to use it to amend their marriage act in 2000 to define marriage as only between a man and a woman.

Then there was that time they were looking into using the notwithstanding clause to shut down any potential lawsuits against the provincial government from victims of forced sterilization. They eventually abandoned this all together. But you can bet everything that Jason Kenney and his party are ecstatic that it’s now cool to use section 33 for pretty much everything under the sun.

Also, all the people in the notes who are trying to blame the USA and Donald Trump for this stuff–did any of you pay any attention in Canadian History class? At all? Ever? This notwithstanding clause has been around for as long as the constitution has been there, and it’s been up for debate for just as long. Acting like Canadian leaders are giving into their worst impulses because of Trump is so fucking stupid. A lot of this stuff predates Trump entirely. Acting like it’s his fault when you literally could not get more of a Canadian problem than the notwithstanding clause is fucking bonkers.
