Btw I’m terrified and we are all gonna die and if I hear one more person say “our species destroyed the environment” I’m gonna lose it harder than I already am which is, for the record, Very Hard Indeed
Our SPECIES didn’t destroy the environment it was like 3 guys
Like it was more than 3 guys but in the grand scheme of things when you step back and really look at it it was like 0.00000000000000000001% of humans and that’s actually a much larger number than reality in reality it was like one 1000th of a guy. But like. For the purposes of envisioning every human alive today vs. people responsible for this. It was like 3 guys.
Saying humans destroyed the environment is only very slightly more accurate than saying mammals destroyed the environment
The “our species destroyed the environment” club is the same club that only ever talks about this as something that is tragic because of all the beauty destroyed, all the cute animals that go extinct, etc.
Never mind the billions of humans whose lives it endangers.
They don’t register on their notion of how tragic the destroyed environment is because they ‘deserve it’ for ‘destroying the environment’.
The concept of collective guilt serves to
get the guilty of the hook
justify not putting any effort in saving people from the deadly consequences of climate change
Hi everyone! We’re asking anyone who can to support Mexico after an earthquake that hit many states. We need a lot of stuff, any help would be fantastic. You can find some links and info below, where to donate and what you can give, doesn’t matter where you are. Thank you very much! We really appreciate it.
We are in need of medicines (analgesics, disinfectants, curation), blankets, coveralls, syringes, serum, splints, alcohol, gauzes, gloves, bands, micropore, surgical stitches, shovels, buckets, picks, supplies (food), lamps, batteries, food for dogs and cats, items for babies and pads.
❗️Things you should know about the Graham-Cassidy Healthcare Bill ❗️
• There is not enough time between now and September 30 to get an accurate CBO score that tells us how many people will loose coverage as well as what the bill will cost, and that is inexcusable.
• It ends individual and employer mandates, which will drive premiums up. It will also end federal subsidies for individual insurance. This is estimated to leave 32 million people uninsured.
• It takes the money going to the states that opted ‘in’ to Medicaid expansion and distributes it among all states, even those whose legislatures irresponsibly voted against expansion. In 2026, funding for Medicaid expansion would end entirely, and the shortfall would be left for the states to cover.
• It institutes a one year freeze on Medicaid reimbursements for Planned Parenthood (even though federal law already prohibits federal tax dollars being used to fund or finance abortion services)
• It allows individual states to define what constitutes an “essential benefit”, which will likely result in a slash of coverage for maternity services, cancer treatments and services, ER visits, prescription drugs, and many more benefits. This could also further prevent women’s clinics from charging Medicaid for things like cancer screenings and birth control.
• It allows insurers to double their surcharge for elderly patients. (The ACA allows insurers to charge older customers up to 3 times as much as younger ones. This bill increases that to up to 5 times as much.)
• It allows insurers to charge higher rates based on health status, and it repeals language in the ACA which prevents changing insurance rates after a patient is diagnosed with a condition.
This is not a drill, friends. Call your senators. We have until the 30th.
202-224-3121 -> US Capitol Switchboard. This will connect you directly with the senate office you request.
ResistBot is another great resource. If you text ‘resist’ to 50409, you can fax straight to your senators office by texting what you want to say.
TL:DR; the healthcare bill still sucks. Call your senators. Information on how above ^^
Yes, the new GOP healthcare bill still sucks. Call 202-224-3121 and tell Congress that.Don’t use those words, though. Be courteous and clear. Tell them how this unparliamentary bill will affect you, your friends, your family, and your future. If you’re scared, tell them you’re scared. If you’re angry, be righteous in your anger.
It sucks that we have to do this over and over again, but we have to do this over and over again. For ourselves, for each other. Love ya, Tumblr.
Oh, and here’s a list of the states where your calls will really, really matter:
Arizona: Senator McCain ☎️ 202-224-2235 Alaska: Senator Murkowski ☎️ 202-224-6665 Maine: Senator Collins ☎️ 202-224-2523 Ohio: Senator Portman ☎️ 202-224-3353 WestVirginia: Senator Capito ☎️ 202-224-6472 Tennessee: Senator Alexander ☎️ 202-224-4944 Colorado: Senator Gardner ☎️ 202-224-5941

If you are able, donating money is one of the most efficient ways to help in a time of crisis.
This is the only monetary fund I know of helping Puerto Ricans, since other monetary funds are via a service only available on the Island called ATH Movíl (Mobile Debit) or via the local bank. There will probably be more set up after the passage of the hurricane, and if i have internet ill try to update this post.
Furthermore, the way donations after disasters work here is by donating objects, important first aid items, food, and service. Donations here do not tend to be monetary, so i’d be wary of donating to organizations that are international and say they will help here, bc they might not. But then again, we’ve literally never seen a natural disaster of this kind so….. I do not know.
I made this at a joke but now that I think about it, one of these two are about to go fight the Nazis in America while one of the others are off killing innocent civilians in imperialist oil wars.
I can’t imagine what the joke originally was but fucking Christ I SUPER can’t believe I’m about to defend the Marines.
Marines are only doing what the commander in chief decides. So get your shit straight
You know that Marines will be court martialed if they try to leave, yes? Can you even imagine signing on for a job you worked your whole life for, only to have a dipshit commander in chief come into power and ruin your job for you, then have a bunch of twats who know fucking nothing about defending our country spit in their faces for wanting to defend your right to do just that. Y’all fucking disgust me, I can’t believe people are trying to use this joke unironically.
Being court-martialed for desertion is the most heroic thing a soldier can do tbh
As a veteran I can tell you what we do in the Middle East and around the world isn’t heroic. This false sense of patriotism is fucking evil. When I served I didn’t think twice when the planes I fixed left with full bomb racks and came back empty. I didn’t lose a minute of sleep when I heard about the “terrorists” we killed because I was brain washed into thinking they were a threat to my country. It’s fucking terrifying how comfortable I was with it all. And now when people thank me for my service I feel nothing but guilt. I am not a hero, and neither are any other service members.
“You have to understand that I enlisted in the Air Force. I volunteered. I was an enthusiastic bombardier. To me it was very simple: it was a war against fascism. They were the bad guys, we were the good guys. One of the things I learned from that experience was that when you start off with them being the bad guys and you being the good guys, once you’ve made that one decision, you don’t have to think anymore, if you’re in the military. From that point on, anything goes. From that point on, you’re capable of anything, even atrocities. Because you’ve made a decision a long time ago that you’re on the right side. You don’t keep questioning, questioning, questioning. You’re not Yossarian, who questions.
And so what happened with me, I was an enthusiastic bombardier, as I say. The war was over, presumably – a few weeks from the end. Everybody knew the war was about to end in Europe. We had been flying bombing missions out of England over the Continent. We didn’t think we were flying missions anymore. No reason to fly. We were all through France, into Germany. The Russians and Americans had met on the Elbe. It was just a matter of a few weeks. And then we were awakened in the wee hours of the morning and told we were going on a mission. The so-called intelligence people, who brief us before we go into a plane, tell us we are going to bomb this tiny town on the Atlantic coast of France called Rohan, near Bordeaux, and we are doing it because there are several thousand German soldiers there. They are not doing anything. They are not bothering anyone. They are waiting for the war to end. They’ve just been bypassed. And we are going to bomb them.
What’s interesting to me later, in thinking about it, is that it didn’t occur to me to stand up in the briefing room and say, “What are we doing? Why are we doing this? The war is almost over, there is no need.” It didn’t occur to me. To this day, I understand how atrocities are committed. How the military mind works. You are taught to just mechanically go through the procedures that you have been taught, you see.
So, we went over Rohan, and they told us in the briefing that we were going to drop a different kind of bomb this time. Instead of the usual demolition bombs, we are going to drop, carry in our bomb bay, thirty 100-pound canisters of what they called jellied gasoline, which was napalm. It was the first use of napalm in the European war. We went over. We destroyed the German troops and also destroyed the French town of Rohan. “Friendly fire.” That’s what bombing does.
To this day, when I hear the leaders of the country say, “Well, this is precision bombing and we are being very careful, and we are only bombing military …” – nonsense. No matter how sophisticated the bombing technology, there is no way you can avoid killing non-military people when you drop bombs. It wasn’t until after the war that I looked back on that. In fact, it wasn’t until after Hiroshima and Nagasaki that I looked back on that. Because after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which at first I had welcomed like everybody at that time did – “Oh yes, the war is going to be over,” – and then I read John Hershey’s book Hiroshima, and for the first time the human consequences of dropping the bomb were brought home to me in a way I hadn’t thought of. When you are dropping bombs from 30,000 feet you don’t hear screams. You don’t see blood.
I suddenly saw what the bomb in Hiroshima did. I began to rethink the whole question of a “good war.” I came to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a good war. They may start off with good intentions, at least on the part of the people who fight in them. Generally not on the part of the people who make the decision; I doubt they have good intentions. But there may be good intentions on the part of the GIs who believe, yes, we are doing this for a good cause. But those good intentions are quickly corrupted. The good guys become the bad guys. So I became convinced that war is not a solution, fundamentally, for any serious problem. It may seem like a solution, like a quick fix, a drug. You get rid of this dictator, that dictator, as we did Hitler, Mussolini. But you don’t solve fundamental problems. In the meantime, you’ve killed tens of millions of people.“ – Howard Zinn
Like a lot of Puerto Ricans, I’m currently part of the diáspora; part of millions of Puerto Rican living outside the island due to different reasons that drove us to leave our Island (temporary or permanent)
As of tonight (9/19/17), Hurricane Maria will be moving across Puerto Rico as a category 5 hurricane. The destruction it will leave on its wake is unknown.
It’s sad and frustrating not knowing how to help my people, my island, my country, during these hard times.
So, I’m gathering all the places we can donate money. Real organizations from Puerto Rico, to ensure that the money goes directly where it’s needed. I’ll be updating this list as soon as I can verify (to the best of my knowledge) the organizations where the donations are going.
If you wish to share one, feel free to submit the information (click here) to out page and we’ll verify (as best as we can). Whatever you can donate, even if it’s just $1, it would be greatly appreciate.
All donations to this fund will exclusively support the victims of the catastrophic Hurricane María and Irma in Puerto Rico and provide relief and aid the communities affected by this disaster.
Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Fund – Puerto Ricans in Action: All funds will be withdrawn from the campaign on September 29, 2017, by our co-founder, Jorge Rivera, and donated to two nonprofits located in Puerto Rico working to rebuilding communities in Culebra and Loiza: ConPRmetidos is working to construction of long-enduring homes in Culebra that meet Safe Building Codes standards, and Iniciativa Comunitaria is working with community leaders in Loiza to identify immediate and long-term needs. They are also working with the United Way of Puerto Rico to give the in-kind donations we receive to the best community organization.
Other organizations that would greatly benefit from additional help:
USPS is largest employer of veterans. Figures Republicans are attacking the vets.
The US Postal Service’s forced financial crisis
In 2006 – Republicans in Congress passed a poison pill piece of legislation forcing the Post Office to pre-fund retiree health benefits 75 years out into the future – basically funding benefits for future employees who aren’t even born yet. The Postal Service has to do this by giving the Treasury $5.5 billion every single year. That’s a requirement that no business, or any government agency has ever had to comply with. And it’s the reason why the Post Office is going bankrupt today and looking into closing down post offices, laying off workers, and cutting down delivery service.
So why is all this happening? Because the Postal Service employs hundreds of thousands of unionized workers – where as private mail carriers like UPS and Fed Ex do not. Republicans – in their non-stop war on labor – realized that they could hurt unions by bankrupting the Postal Service. That’s what they did in 2006, and their plan is working today.
