I mostly use my Biology minor to explain the evolutionary reasons why I kinda want to eat my laundry detergent pods
please elaborate dear friend.
They are small brightly colored soft orbs. In a savannah environment (where much of human evolution occurred) all those stimuli say “fruit, this has a lot of calories and is valuable to you.” Which is why most candy is made to look colorful and generally fruitlike, our brains are evolved to like that and take it to mean “tastes good! Very sweet!” Hence I sometimes want to eat my Tide pods (but never actually do)
i know i’ve made a post exactly like this before but that trope of a vampire or faerie or anything “other” watching a human from afar and “choosing” them is STILL so wild and uncomfortable to me bc if you watch someone from afar like that you’re gonna form such a romantic image of them in your head that’s actually barely what they’re like 90% of the time but now what the hell are you gonna do you just turned them into a vampire/brought them over to the faerie realm for eternity you’re STUCK with them and THEY’RE stuck with your impulsive naive romantic ass like
if a vampire watched me from afar they’re gonna catch me smelling wild flowers, talking to crows, and walking barefoot through creeks but they never see me inside and now they’re stuck, listening to me complain about the Naruto epilogue again. Again. They’re so tired. “Molly Anne,” they say. “Molly Anne please. It’s been two-hundred years.” I keep going. The betrayal still feels fresh.
Scientists hope to hugely reduce the cost of wind energy by removing the blades from wind farms, instead taking advantage of a special phenomenon to cause the turbines to violently shake.
Vortex, a startup from Spain, has developed the tall sticks known as Bladeless — white poles jutting out of the ground, that are built so that they can oscillate. They do so as a result of the way that the wind is whipped up around them, using a phenomenon that architects avoid happening to buildings and encouraging it so that the sticks shake.
They do so using vortices, which is where the company gets its name from. The bladeless turbines use special magnets to ensure that the turbines are optimised to shake the most they can, whatever speed the wind is travelling at.
As the sticks vibrate, that movement is converted into electricity by an alternator.
Wiggling Poles of the Wasteland Harvest Electricity For Power Hungry Humans
These also look like they would cause fewer problems for birds and bats.
This is really cool.
They leave off the important note that when the wind rises, each pole makes a sound like a hundred vuvuzelas roaring at once. In the post-apocalyptic world of the future, villagers will speak in hushed tones about the Roaring Plains, and caution adventurous travelers to stay well away.
I appreciate how they essentially invented very useful yet alien-looking screaming pillars. Science continues to make some suspiciously sci-fi shit.
At least you won’t have to go outside to know how windy it is… You’ll hear it.
They provide us energy
They provide us warmth
They love us
These martyr gods, their twitching agony is our salvation
Arrested for not possessing a valid drivers license, held in custody because she couldn’t make bail, “failure to receive adequate medical attention” is the reason of her death. On April 26th she was in a car accident and instead of taking her to the hospital they detained her. Died last Tuesday in police custody in the Walker County Jail in Huntsville,Texas. The same jail that killed #SandraBland. No one knows, no one is talking about this, no cause of death has been given, and even her hometown had no idea she was dead.
Boost!
Wow.. 😔😓
Smh not again man
Please say her name. Her name was Symone Marshall. She was 22 years old. She had a sister named Honey who called the jail multiple times, asking them to give Symone the medical attention she obviously needed. She had a 3 year old daughter. Please don’t forget her. Symone Nicole Marshall had serious injuries in police custody and they let her die.
Ever needed to hear about mad dad birds with enormous feet? Try THESE on for size:
What’s that you say? These are clearly the feet of a dinosaur, not a bird? WHY NOT BOTH?
This is Australia’s very own dinosaur, the second-largest bird in the world, the emu. Say hi!
They roam around Australia making ‘wonk-wonk’ noises under their breath and glaring at everything. And the dads take care of the babies! They sit on the eggs…
They look after the tiny stripey adorable things….
They look after the less tiny less adorable things…
And they even look after the great big menacing things that are almost as big as they are.
But here’s the catch. All emus look pretty much alike. Especially when you are a tiny stripey adorable thing. All you can see of your dad is is great big dinosaur feet (see picture #1). So there is one very unrealistic thing about all the adorable terrifying dinosaur family photos above:
I have never seen an emu family in the wild where all the babies are the same size.
Here is the reason!
Emu dad and his emu babies are roaming about wonking and glaring at everyone. Suddenly emu dad sees another emu dad! A threat!
Emu dads do some display threats with dancing and bouncing and fluffing and… look, it’s very serious business, okay?
If this does not work to see off one emu they might progress to actual fighting.
Oops, sorry, you wanted the dignified version. Here, have some ART:
MAGNIFICENT.
Either way, this encounter will end up with one or both adult emus zooming away as fast as he can run. This is very fast.
This is the other thing they do besides wonking and glaring, by the way. They run. Fear the running emu.
Anyway, this leaves all the tiny and medium-sized and semi-large stripey things milling around making confused tiny “cheep? wonk?” noises and basically just following whichever pair of large feet they can find.
HI DAD
And so mostly when you see a male emu with a gaggle of youngsters at heel, they are all different sizes. Who knows whose they are? Not him! But he’s going to look after them anyway.
In the end, your mother could only save a handful of her closest friends. If it weren’t for her shield, man, I don’t know…
and Amethyst presumably being spared by the fact she was still in the ground (as we’ve now seen being in the mirror probably kept Lapis from feeling the effects of it).
I also find it interesting that this episode pretty convincingly takes Rose Quartz off the suspect list for two very popularly theorised-about twists: that she was the one who put Lapis in the mirror, and that she caused the corruption in a last-ditch attempt to drive Homeworld away. Rather, it seems the Rebellion was even more successful than was mostly believed – and it was Homeworld and the Diamonds who were desperate to stop it from spreading, with the complete overkill of both this and the Cluster. It’ll be interesting to see how knowledge of Earth and the Rebellion is treated on Homeworld in the present day, as we’ve already had some pretty intriguing hints.
