Few things about DAPL if you haven’t heard

Army Engineers said no to a permit. Doesn’t mean that DAPL can’t keep drilling and just pay the fines. 50K a day in fines is nothing for a company like them to brush off.

They could literally just wait, and lose money of course, until Trump gets into office and streamlines the project. He could just use the Federal government’s powers over interstate commerce to get it put through.

This is part of a colonial frontier war against the original peoples and the land

Celebrate a victory but don’t fall for the State’s trick. This is far from over.

“Yet even as men and women began drumming and dancing around the fire, many Native Americans were unconvinced that Sunday’s news was the end.

“It’s not over. It’s never over,” said a Standing Rock member who gave his name as Ghost. “They say one thing and do another.”

DAPL and Energy Transfer Partners are planning to continue construction, permits or no. They released a statement to that effect.

I’d say Maul has lost it, but he never really had it to begin with. The holocrons definitely loosened some screws though. Not sure if he’s going to come back from this one.

Really, we should be impressed it’s taken him this long- two 15 year stretches living in trash piles, getting his legs chopped off, Palpatine– to reach this level of Not Good.

Wondering what a call to Congress actually sounds like? We got you.

If you’re on this website (or a human alive today) there’s a really good chance you’re afraid to call your Senator/Representative because you don’t know how the phone call will go. We’re trying to remove some of the mystery around calling your elected representative to show you a few different examples of first time callers leaving a comment with their Congressional office. It’s so easy!

On this call, you see Victoria learning that sometimes you have to call a few different offices to get through. You should also know that if you’re not calling from a big state like New York or California, you’re much less likely to have this problem. Either way, on average even the long calls take less than five minutes. Just make sure you call during standard work hours. Take a bathroom break to make the call if you have to. Promise it won’t take too long.

Read more about how to call your congressional representative here.

Also, if you really can’t make phone calls, WRITE THEM LETTERS. they will get opened and read. Unlike sending emails, you’ll only get automated responses based on keywords picked up from your email. In letters, you can articulate your positions clearly and for how ever long you want to.

Army Corps Denies Easement and Blocks the Dakota Access Pipeline

bryankonietzko:

Cheers to the brave protestors who stood up for themselves and others in the face of corporate greed, institutionalized racism, and militarized police brutality. Hopefully this victory will last. And in case you hadn’t heard: As stated by Dr. Adrienne Keene via Twitter, “DAPL was re-routed through Standing Rock because Bismarck’s residents
feared it could poison their drinking water. The Sioux are literally
being forced at gunpoint to accept ecological risks that North Dakota’s
white residents refused.“

Army Corps Denies Easement and Blocks the Dakota Access Pipeline

zanabism:

Justin Trudeau approved the Kinder Morgan pipeline which will run from Canadian oil sands to the Pacific Ocean. The pipeline, which will put Tsleil Waututh First Nations tribal land at risk of oil spills and contamination, undermines every false promise made by Justin Trudeau to put the environment and the safety of FN people first. Trudeau is literally just a liar who has done nothing but break his most important promises to Canadians and further marginalize already marginalized people

The more and more serious and monastic Kanan gets the more hilarious it is to remember that this is a man who spent most of his late teen years as a dissolute rogue. Hera picked him up in a bar! For most of season one he was more space pirate than staid Jedi. He winked, he swaggered. He carried on the proud tradition of ridiculous flirting that began with such heroes as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Sure, he might be a bit more reserved now, three kids and a major injury does that to a guy, but the man has a scoundrel past. He once hit on a Star Destroyer captain.

Imagine some poor new Phoenix Squadron techie, highly intimidated by Commander Syndulla’s ultra serious, mysterious, bearded partner, (The gossip vine says he might be a Jedi, though Ami just says he found a lightsaber somewhere and ran with it.) turning a corner at the wrong time and hearing Kanan the terrifying telling the scary Mandalorian girl with a straight face that, “Table dancing is a perfectly respectable job, Sabine. The money is good and the hours aren’t bad if it’s a quiet club.”

It doesn’t stop there. He’s the first person Commander Sato and Commander Syndulla turn to when they need to sober up an informant they just pulled out of a bar fight. He has firm opinions about the various varieties of engine room moonshine. He speaks Huttese.

He knows seventy different names for common street drugs.

According to Dell- who’s been in the squadron longer than anyone- he and Commander Syndulla left the channel open once and everyone had to hear them calling each other pet names in the middle of pitched battle.

Forget the lightsaber, all anyone is really interested in his self professed ability to make a Coruscanti cocktail that won’t give you a killer hangover the next day.

In a totally unsurprising development, Trump’s camp is trying to block all recount efforts. Which begs the question, why?

to use every conservative white person’s favorite phrase “you shouldn’t worry if you have nothing to hide”

I’ll be frank. Initially I was against a recount, but Trump’s behavior here is convincing me that there’s something up. You don’t try to block a recount if you haven’t committed election fraud.

arterialtrees:

In case anybody is unclear re. Standing Rock, they are closing the roads on Monday to block access to new water protectors coming in and to people currently at the camps to leave to get supplies/shower etc. and come back in. As of yesterday, they are threatening to start closing off supplies from getting there before the December 5th deadline and saying that first responders will no longer offer medical assistance to water protectors in freezing temperatures who are being blasted with water cannons and shot with rubber bullets. They’re basically saying they’re going to let people freeze and starve to death to protect corporate interests. This is a war.

Nepal ratifies new Constitution that includes LGBT rights

lgbtq-asians-united:

Nepal’s new constitution is the first in Asia to explicitly mention the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. Nepal now joins a handful of countries around the world such as South Africa (1996) and Ecuador (1998) that provide protections for LGBT people in their national constitutions.

This is Nepal’s first constitution as a federal republic following the dissolution of the 239-year-old monarchy by a parliamentary vote in 2008. It contains several articles that enshrine protections and rights for LGBT people.

-Article 12 states that citizens will be allowed to choose their preferred gender identity on their citizenship document. The choices available are male, female or other.

-Article 18 states that gender and sexual minorities will not be discriminated against by the state and by the judiciary in the application of laws. It further adds that the government may make special provisions through laws to protect, empower and advance the rights of gender and sexual minorities and other marginalized and minority groups.

-Article 42 lists gender and sexual minorities among the groups that have a right to participate in state mechanisms and public services to promote inclusion.

“This new Constitution makes clear that we can be proud of our LGBT identities, and that we can be proud citizens of Nepal,” said Sunil Babu Pant, founder of Blue Diamond Society and Asia’s first openly gay federal member of parliament. “This victory is just the beginning of our long road towards full equality. We are ready to move beyond the discrimination, violence and exclusion of the past, and continue with even greater integrity, responsibility and dedication to contribute to the nation-building process. We will be working together with Nepali and international allies to build our nation, a ‘new, inclusive and prosperous Nepal’.”
