I’m confused

It used to be that paper currency was backed by gold and silver for its value. A 10$ paper note would be redeemable for 10$ worth of gold or silver following the gold or silver standard. Currently our bills are fiat money which means they are not backed by any tangible item. They’re just based on the strength of the economy. The economy can fluctuate so it makes the actual value of a bill unstable. These Mcdonalds coins, however, would be a currency that are redeemable for a Big Mac. This would make them a technically more stable currency as they are always have the value of a Big Mac they can be redeemed for.

It’s 2018

fuckyesdisabledmuties:

The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) was just reformed so that disabled people can’t sue public businesses for discrimination because it would be discrimination against that business.

50% of all US murder victims by police officers are disabled

Bathrooms, entryways, seating, parking, and other public spaces are segregated for disabled people

Disabled children are required to go to segregated schools

Disabled people can’t…

  • Get married without losing their health insurance which is a death sentence
  • Have savings accounts
  • Have more than $2000 at any given time
  • Own or inherent property
  • Own jewelry worth more than $100 or other items worth more than $500 without reporting them to the government

It is legal for a parent to murder a disabled child if they consider that child an undue burden

This is an extremely short list of things you are leaving out of your social justice

Trying to communicate with my future morning self is like setting an elaborate trap for an unsuspecting zombie like

if I put my phone alarm on full volume and vibrate and move the charger so I can put it on this out-of-reach metal surface, I can startle her awake. Probably. Then if I securely duct tape this caffeinated chocolate bar to it, it will provide a challenging situation and make her mushy little brain work extra hard to figure out how to turn the alarm off. Then she might go for the chocolate while she’s turning off the loud noises. With luck, she’ll consume the whole thing. 20 minutes of bliss then boom, physiology kicks in and the caffeine reaches her brain. Gentlemen, this just might work.

It didn’t work.

Ever Wondered How Emperor Penguins Survive in Temperatures of

−40°C

Their feathers are densely packed, and have in fact the highest contour feather destiny of any bird, allowing them to maintain a constant body temperature of 38°C in freezing waters.

Depsite previous reports that filoplumes and plumules aka.downy feathers, are absent in penguins, new research has found the presence of both feathers in the penguin’s plumage. It was assumed before this that afterfeathers were the sole insulation

component in the penguin’s plumage.

These downy feathers are about four times denser than the afterfeathers of the bird and play a key role in the insulation of penguins.

‘Hidden keys to survival: the type, density, pattern and functional role of emperor penguin body feathers’. Williams C, Hagelin J, Kooyman G. Proceedings of the Royal Society B.  21 October 2015. DOI: 10.1098/rspb.2015.2033

god there’s something horrid and fantastic about this dense, sinful slice of penguin. This feels like something that should be private. We should thank the penguins for the insight, and then we should gently replace that which we should not have witnessed. This knowledge has a heavy weight

Please pray for us here in Greece.

Three different places near Athens were destroyed by massive forest fires.

180+ people are severely injured and burnt.

50 people and counting were found dead on the streets, in their cars or houses, including families that were found hugging each other.

100+ are missing.

This is a national tragedy. So many were lost because of ARROGANT PEOPLE.

Spreading awareness. There’s no need for such things to happen, so many lives were destroyed for no reason.

Here’s some more articles here about the fires

here here and here

And some important excerpt about current info:

“Whilst the definite cause of the wildfires is unknown, the weather conditions created a deadly environment for a fire to spark. Scorching hot weather in Greece has dried out undergrowth and foliage, making any flames easily able to spread. Wind speeds of up to 50mph have also contributed to the spread of fire. Authorities are also employing a drone to scan the area the fires have come from, to rule out any suspicious activity. How far have the fires spread? The fires are on the east coast of Greece and have spread across residential areas and towards beaches.
It is not yet clear how many acres of land have been covered by the flames but strong winds have fanned flames stretching as wide as four miles near Kineta, local officials said. An Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) spokesman said: “The wildfires in Greece are northeast of Athens in the Penteli area and 50km west of Athens.“This area isn’t a main destination for UK tourists. People on holiday in the region are advised to monitor news reports and follow any advice or instructions issued by the local authorities, their travel company or their accommodation providers.“

And here is a site with a collection of resources of where to donate and how to help. I obviously don’t live in Greece, so I’m not 1000% about all of these resources, but it’s here if you can spare some change or compassion.

You can try to donate here if you want, though the source isn’t actually very known, I actually saw that right now. They haven’t said anything about that in the news, though I believe it may be trustworthy.

btw a relief fund is being set up by the hellenic red cross http://www.redcross.gr/ which you can donate to through the following bank account:

Eurobank Greece

i never talk about these things but i can’t remain silent.

i know tumblr doesn’t give a SHIT when things happen in countries outside the “most popular ones” (such as the usa & england). it’s true, don’t lie to me. y’all don’t give A FUCK. not every issue and problem in said countries gets the appropriate exposure but in general shit shows up on the news WORLD FREAKING  WIDE. you set up donations, you help out, your spread the word, you say “pray for x”……

southern europe is burning.

my country is burning.

people are dying – at home, on the road, trying to run away, in their cars.

yesterday my country had 300 active fires.

people are losing EVERYTHING they own.

i have a friend that is on a train right now passing through places that have been burnt to the ground and she says the smoke is so intense it’s getting inside the train and she can barely breathe.

and yet, even though several people (myself included) have been trying to bring awareness to what has been happening in southern europe… what we get from most of you, those not part of the countries suffering, is silence. we don’t ask for money, we don’t ask for shit other than a reblog to spread awareness… something you can delete in 24/48hrs if you wish.

i don’t know what to tell you. i’m angry. i’m frustrated. i’m disappointed. i feel like i’m screaming into the void. “a reblog does nothing” – you know that’s a damn lie, you know exposure always helps, you know people start paying attention when posts on social media become popular. my country in particular is a small one, we get ZERO exposure. y’all are only starting to figure out we even fucking exist bc of the shit we’ve been winning lately.

but hell, if the EU doesn’t give a shit, why should some user on tumblr dot com?

again, i don’t know what to tell you so i’ll let the images speak for themselves:

This is fucking important. I am glad someone fucking spoke about this and said what they had to say. The damage is terrible, and all the evergreen, stone, even the ground is black. I was fucking terrified when Croatia was burning. The fire was near a village where I like and I thought it will burn down. I thought the church will burn down. I thought the cemetery where my grandpa is buried will burn. I still remember the smell of smoke, and when I went to check how bad is fire, my clothes and hair and skin all stunk of smoke. It didn’t go away for weeks.

This is NASA’s picture of Croatia and Montenegro burning. My fucking country was burning. Fucking reblog this. I don’t care that it isn’t UK or US, or that it doesn’t go with your blog, fucking. Reblog. It.

Not my blog type, I dont care.

God please stay safe everyone, take care

A perfect example what is wrong with the media. I can’t recall hearing about it in the German news.

I had nightmares like this when I was little.

Dear gods this is horrible!

The world is on fire, literally and metaphorically.

Last year southern italy was literally burnt down and nobody cared. Even the fucking vesuvius and fucking positano were burning. So i’m reblogging the fuck out of this

that’s what happened to Spain last year. need to reblog

The bodies of 26 people in Greece were found huddled together on a field close to the beach. A woman who had made it to the water with her 3 Yr old told the press people were running from their cars towards the water, but the fire moved so quickly she knew many of the people behind her wouldn’t make it. She found the path to the beach, but those 26 people? They didn’t find the path in time. The terror they must have suffered in their last moments doesn’t bare thinking about, but at the same time we have to confront this. If we turn away, we are complicit. These aren’t entirely natural disasters after all, this is climate change in action. And it will continue to get worse.
