anyway I do think Smeagol could have been redeemed/rehabilitated if the story had played out differently

While the Gollum personality would have likely remained after the Ring’s destruction, I agree that it’s possible that he could’ve lived a semi-normal happy life. But definitely under the right supervision. Gollum probably would have harbored a hatred for Hobbits after Frodo and Sam (ultimately) destroy the Ring so living in Hobbiton seems a bit risky.

I imagine that a peaceful farming/ fishing life would’ve been agreeable with Smeagol, close to his old life. Maybe staying under the care of Tom Bombadil and Goldberry or Radagast the Brown would have worked out for him.
