For the people who asked, take a look at the most vulnerable populations to climate change disasters and take a wild guess who’s going to get displaced first and who’s going to bar those people from entering their spaces and hoard their finances in the face of disaster whilst simultaneously making the policy that renders these people homeless in the first place. GUESS.
Like sorry but a white senator in Iowa blocking laws that prevent climate change measures that displace and impoverish people in Puerto Rico or Dominica, whilst simultaneously blocking immigration access to boot, is fundamentally racist.
This is racist even at the state level. Forest fires in my state (Montana) burned areas near and on reservations and filled the reservations with smoke to the point breathing was difficult – and Native people are not able to afford to go live somewhere else or leave until the air gets better. Forest fires get worse as climate change worsens and ‘fire season’ is now basically all seasons, making life miserable for the Native people here because they are expected to breathe in that much smoke and still do their day jobs and live life despite constant chest pains, asthma attacks and potential life threatening risks to the elderly population.
Meanwhile our white senator who is originally from another state lives in a mansion and says ‘what climate change, there is no climate change’ while the Native people who were here before this was a state live in poverty and die of smoke inhalation.
