Speaker Paul Ryan is doing a phone survey to gauge support for the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) If you want to let him know your opinion of the ACA give hima call at (202) 225-3031.

You will need to navigate a small phone tree to get to the right survey. Press 2 to express your opinion on the ACA. You will then listen to a description of HB 3762 a bill that President Obama vetoed earlier this year and they could not get the 2/3rds majority needed to override the veto.

At the end of that message you can choose to press 1 to support the ACA or press 2 to not support it. (For the love of all people in your life who live with a chronic condition, press 1!)

Thank you, friends of friends on Facebook, for keeping me aware of things.

FYI, there’s like a minute and a half of silence before the recording starts, so just wait it out.

also if you decide to leave a voicemail after the survey, its ryan’s voice and he speaks way too loud

I just did it; it’s entirely automated and takes very little time & effort! A few clarifications though:

  • The period of silence before the recording starts is closer to 20-30 seconds than a minute and a half
  • The bill you hear a description of is HR3762, not HB
  • This description is pretty biased against the ACA and in favor of HR3762
  • Once you’ve indicated your support of the ACA by pressing 1, the recording will tell you to stay on the line if you want to leave a voicemail. If you don’t want to leave one (and don’t want to hear Ryan’s too-loud voice), just hang up at that point.

Further notes: Apparently some people, when calling up hear a recorded message saying the mailbox is full. The mailbox is not full. If you get this message when you call, hang up and try again, odds are good you’ll get to the right place!

Also, if you feel up to it, leaving a voice message would add a little oomph to your input. But be polite. Resist the urge to rant or go off on unrelated tangents. Give a short, concise statement about why the ACA is important to you and/or America.

Personal details, (i.e., Freelancers like me who don’t get insurance through an employer need affordable healthcare that the ACA provides, the ACA allows me to afford my necessary medication, etc) are encouraged but not necessary. Something as simple as “the ACA helped me/someone I know”  or “I have huge doubts about HR 3762″ is still good!
