I was looking for a picture of a young Ian McDiarmid because I wanted to know if it was theoretically possible for there to be Young Hot Palpatine (purely an intellectual enterprise, mind) but the poor man apparently always looked like a beset upon civil servant. 

That’s the face of your high school history teacher who tries to be fun but doesn’t have the energy for it. No wonder nobody suspected Palpatine, he has the face of a bumbling family doctor and the eyes of a sad puppy.
