Oh fuck. You just put into words what I’ve been thinking since SW VII was announced. D:

I mean, I’ve literally been told that the PT, TCW, and Rebels are not real Star Wars, whatever the hell that means.

I’m sure there’s a way to sell TFA and the current line-up – Rebels included, yes – without badmouthing the PT/the PT era at every turn, but apparently Lucasfilm hasn’t realized they’re actually alienating a major part of their established fanbase.

Is it Lucasfilm or Disney doing that? Because I was under the impression Lucasfilm stood by the prequels mostly, it’s more the fandom/Disney that does not.

I doubt that anyone’s doing it as policy, but it comes up all the time in casual comments – there was one in like the first five minutes of the TFA panel at SWCA, I’ve seen it in interviews, etc.  In this particular case my rant was touched off by something in one of Club Jade’s twitter roundups, but I go off on it every month or so and this one was building for a while due to various Rebels rumors.

And honestly, even if it’s not being done deliberately?  It’s how it feels to me as a PT-era fan.

Huh. I have not really been paying attention to the TFA hype, because I don’t want to go in expecting anything. But if the cast and everyone is doing it? That’s pretty damn awful, because you can’t write off half (or more than, given TCW being canon!) of the canon era or the history.

It is pretty aggravating when people look at you like you’re bonkers for liking the prequels. I’ve encountered that IRL too. (Guess I’m just too used to this Tumblr fandom group to be exposed to it much)

It’s not just TFA – one of the questions that always comes up with the artists for the comics is “how are you designing new alien creatures?”  And fairly regularly the answer is “nothing that couldn’t be done without prosthetics!  don’t want to make it look like too much CGI is being used!  nothing with mo-cap!”  Dude.  You are drawing.  With pencils.  In a sketchbook.
